My grandmother, mother, and two maternal aunts were all diagnosed with breast cancer. This is a cause near and dear to my heart. I have researched and visited with many women who have been diagnosed with this disease. The effects of having breast cancer vary for all women. It is not only painful, scary, often fatal, it is also a disease of disfigurement with self-conscious results. This art project attempts to humanize these women’s feelings and record their journey and breasts before surgery. Hopefully, the outcomes show the beauty of their womanhood in a light that also depicts their individual interest.

HOW?

In the privacy of their own home or my art studio, women will paint their breasts and then press them against a prepared canvas. I prepare the canvas ahead of time after our consultation together to determine what their final outcome is to be. It can range from realism to abstraction and in any color scheme imaginable. Following the breast impression, I then enhance the final artwork to reflect the desired piece. Some women like the obviousness of their breast impression while others like the covert, hidden image that has been turned into something else. Either way, it is an eternal piece of art with the patron’s breast forever embedded in the work.
